A Royal bayreuth Rose tapestry tray bearing their blue Lions mark in use from 1187-1902. This Rose Tapestry tray features gilt trim, and the pink roses dominate a rich floral background. It measures 11.25x8 inches. With the exception of only slight wear to the gold trim, this tray is in excellent condition without any damage. Royal Bayreuth Tapestry China is so named because of its rough finish similar in texture to needlepoint tapestry.

We have heard of two possible methods whereby the tapestry effect was obtained 1) by the process of wrapping the article in coarse cloth, then baking. The cloth was consumed in the baking and the desired tapestry effect resulted. 2) by wrapping the damp porcelain in course cloth prior to firing, When the cloth was removed, the surface of the porcelain retained the texture and appearance of tapestry and was then glazed before baking. The beautiful rose floral scenic pattern was then painted over the glaze to create these exquisite pieces of Bavarian porcelain.
