Empire Art Gold Ormalu Brass Cabochon Jeweled Tray

Empire Art Gold Ormalu Brass Cabochon Jeweled Tray
SKU:

An antique Empire Art Gold Ormalu Brass jeweled tray that has an unusual center made from what could be bakelite or a similar compound.

The brass tray has bowed handles and an intricate pattern of floral garlands and ribbons decorate the ormalu frame. Six filigree metalwork plaques are placed around the top of the tray's ormalu frame, each bezel set with a 3/4 inch semi-precious stone cabochon and further adorned with colorful triangular bezel set faux jewels on either side. The filigree plaques are separated by additional triangular glass jewels making a total of 18 small and 6 large stones. The two large stones adjacent to the handles are a turquose shade with a topaz center while the remaining four large stones have shades of green. The faux jewels are in shades of red, blue, yellow and turquoise.

The center of the tray is a thick circular slab of a substance resembling bakelite, approx 3/4 inch thick, and with a swirled yellow pattern that resembles slag glass. It stands on four balled feet

The tray is engraved with 'Empire Art Gold E. & J.B.' around the Crown mark

Dimensions are approx 15 inches across the handled sides and 11.5 inch internal diameter with a height of 1.25inches. The top of the ormalu frame is very tarnished with glimpses of golden ormalu brass showing, while the bottom is hardly tarnished at all at shows the true color. I have intentionally not cleaned the patina as some collectors prefer it left as is. One triangular turquoise stone is missing adjacent to one handle, all other stones intact and the rest of the tray in excellent condition

I use USPS with UPIC insurance for all shipments unless otherwise requested. Shipping quote already includes full insurance and handling. Please contact me if you have any questions.
