Akro Agate Slag Glass Mexicali Powder Jar

The Mexicali powder jar was produced by Akro Agate, circa 1930, for the Pickwick Cosmetic Corp.One side of the base has an embossed figure of a seated Mexican having a siesta under a cactus, on the opposite side he is playing a guitar. The lid is shaped like a sombrero. These powder jars were originally filled with a spicy bath powder, and used as cigarette jars once empty. This orange-red marbleized powder jar is shown and described on page 64 of Whitmyer - Bedroom & Bathroom Glassware of the Depression Years. Both the jar and its lid are in excellent condition
